A vibrant red lip is equivalent to the little black dress. Universal flattering and ever so chic, we are seeing it grace runways, off duty models, and celebrities alike. From nighttime jaw dropping looks to kicking around in jeans on the weekend red lips are the accent to any look.
We are truly in a red revival at the moment. Every makeup and cosmetic brand out with their version of the perfect red, so how do you make sure you select the perfect red?
First thing is first, when testing lipsticks for colour and coverage try using the tip of your finger. The skin is almost the same tone as your lip. Brush only one coat (as less coats are always better with red to avoid build up and product movement) to test texture, consistency and of course, that you are happy with shade. Make sure you don’t discount matt as old school, as we are seeing matt lipsticks (especially red) have a huge comeback in fashion circles.
There are a lot of different shades of red out there but how do you know which one to choose? The general rule is fairer skins suit cooler tones like the blue-reds and the pink-reds while warmer skin tones will suit the more orange and brown tones of reds.
For a more modern red lip lift the lip line slightly above the lip the bottom lip line and do not take the colour the whole way out lips crease.
